Plan a readable 85.6 × 54 mm layout, with room around the edges and a clear front and back.
Design at the finished card size
Our listed card format is 85.6 × 54 mm with rounded corners. Set the artwork to that size before arranging the layout. A document designed as a full A4 page will become difficult to read if the whole page is simply reduced onto a wallet-size card.
At 300 pixels per inch, the finished face is approximately 1011 × 638 pixels. A PDF that keeps text and shapes as vectors is another useful option. Pixel dimensions are a preparation guide, not a promise that a blurry source image will print clearly.
Keep critical details away from the edge
Leave comfortable space between important text and the cut edge. Names, card numbers, faces and codes should not sit against the corners. Rounded corners remove part of the rectangular artwork, so inspect those areas carefully.
For an edge-to-edge custom design, confirm the required bleed and safe area with support before exporting. Do not add crop marks unless the printer has specifically asked for them.
Make the small details readable
Prefer a simple font, strong contrast and a clear hierarchy. Give the name and main identifier priority. Avoid putting light grey text over a detailed photograph or using very thin lettering for important information.
View a sample at actual physical size, or print a paper proof without scaling. A design that looks spacious on a large monitor can still be crowded on an 85.6 mm card.
Check the reverse side and export
Decide which information belongs on the reverse before you export. Use matching dimensions and orientation on both sides, and label the files clearly. Check spelling, contact details, logos and any date fields in the final export.
Send the final PDF or high-quality JPG, PNG or WebP. Keep the editable original on your own device so you can correct details later without rebuilding the design from a flattened image.
