Twenty to thirty photos in one frame

This is the largest collage we make: 27 layouts for 20 to 30 pictures. It is meant for the long view, such as a friendship that has lasted ten years, a whole school batch, a wedding album on a single wall or a farewell gift for a team.

With this many photos, the pictures become a pattern more than individual portraits, and that is part of the effect. The layouts include dense grids of five by six or six by five, two or three tall columns, a honeycomb of hexagons, a brick-offset layout in two rows of fifteen, and a version with a few large featured photos above a field of mini photos. A scattered polaroid board with thirty tilted snapshots feels like a bedroom wall.

Choose photos that are bright and close up, because they will be printed very small, and pick the larger frame size so faces stay recognisable. A mix of portraits and group photos works better than all group photos.
