The difference between the official UIDAI PVC card and a private print from your file, and what to carry for official use.
Three different things
The Aadhaar letter and the e-Aadhaar PDF are issued through UIDAI. UIDAI also offers its own PVC Aadhaar card through its official service. A private PVC print from a printing service is a copy of a file you supply.
What UIDAI has said
UIDAI has publicly advised people not to rely on PVC Aadhaar copies made in the open market, saying they may not carry the security features of the official card. Its own PVC card is the one it recommends. The details, fees and processes have changed over time, so check the current position on the UIDAI website before you decide.
How to think about a private print
A private print can be a convenient, sturdy copy for your own use. It is not a UIDAI-issued card and we do not claim it is. For banking, government or any other official verification, use the document the organisation accepts and ask it which forms of Aadhaar it takes.
If you want the official card, order it from UIDAI. If you only want a durable copy of a file you already hold, a private print is an option.
