An official reprint, an official PVC card and a private PVC print are three different things.
Three things people call a “reprint”
An official reprint is a fresh copy of the Aadhaar document that UIDAI arranges. UIDAI’s PVC card is the card version of it, also issued by UIDAI. A private PVC print is different again: it puts a file you already hold onto a durable card.
Only UIDAI can issue a new official document. A printing service can only reproduce the file you give it.
When a private print makes sense
If you have lost the card but still hold a downloaded e-Aadhaar PDF, a private print can give you a sturdy copy while you decide about the official route. If you need a document that an organisation will accept, check with it first.
Check these before you print
Look at the file you hold. Is the photograph clear? Is the number readable? Is it the full Aadhaar or a masked one? A reprint can only be as good as its source, and we print exactly what the file shows.
If your details have changed, update them with UIDAI first. A printing service cannot correct a name, address or date of birth, and printing an out-of-date file only gives you a durable copy of old details.
Common mix-ups
A downloaded e-Aadhaar PDF is not a card, and a PVC print of it is not the UIDAI card. A masked file hides part of the number by design. A photocopy or a screenshot of a screenshot loses detail and prints poorly. Starting from the original download gives the best result.
