How to Choose a God Photo Frame for Your Pooja Room

Choose a God photo frame for the mandir: size for a shelf or a wall, which style suits your room, black or white frame, and festivals to order for.

A God photo frame is more than decoration. It is the picture you look at while you pray, so size, style and the form of the deity all matter. This guide covers the practical choices. Where to place it and which direction it should face are matters of family tradition, and we leave those to you.

Start with the deity and the form

Many deities are shown in several forms. Krishna appears as Bal Krishna, with the flute, as Banke Bihari or Shrinathji. Shiva appears in meditation, as Nataraja or at a jyotirlinga temple. Durga is shown as Navdurga or as Vaishno Devi. If you worship at a specific temple, look for that form rather than a general picture. The full range is in God photo frames.

Choose a size for the space

  • 8 × 12 inch (about 20 × 30 cm) suits a pooja shelf, a niche or a small wall. Several of the same size look neat together.
  • 12 × 18 inch (about 30 × 45 cm) works as the main picture on a mandir wall or in a living room. Detailed scenes with many small figures, such as Navdurga or a Ram Darbar, show best at this size.

Our photo frame size guide has more on the two sizes.

Match the style to the room

  • Traditional Tanjore, Pichwai and temple-arch designs have gold detail and deep colours that suit a classic mandir.
  • Marble-sculpture, line-art and minimal designs in white and gold suit a modern home with a clean pooja corner.
  • Folk art such as Madhubani, Pattachitra, Warli and Gond adds colour and character.

Black or white frame

A black frame gives a strong outline and suits dark, richly coloured pictures. A white frame looks lighter and goes well with pale walls and white-and-gold designs. Pick one finish for all frames in the same room.

Choosing for a festival or a gift

Common choices are Ganesha for Ganesh Chaturthi and housewarmings, Lakshmi for Diwali, Durga for Navratri, Krishna for Janmashtami, Hanuman for Hanuman Jayanti and Saraswati for students. For Lakshmi and Ganesha together see Lakshmi Ganesh frames. Frames are made after you order: allow 1 to 2 days to make it and 3 to 5 days for delivery, so order at least a week before the festival.

Quality and care

Each frame is printed in UV-cured ink on MDF and is ready to hang. Dust it with a dry, soft cloth, and keep it away from damp walls and direct, strong sunlight.
