What the e-Shram card is for

The e-Shram portal is the national database of unorganised workers. After you register, you receive a Universal Account Number, called the UAN, and an e-Shram card. The card shows your name, your UAN and a QR code. If a photo is on it, check that it is not cut off.

You register and download your e-Shram card on the e-Shram portal. Once you have the PDF, upload it here. If you registered a few years ago, download the card again before printing. It makes sure the file shows your current details.

Why workers choose a PVC card

Workers carry their documents through rain, dust and long days. A PVC card holds up better than paper in a bag or a pocket. Wipe it with a dry cloth, and keep it away from heat.

Making a file that prints well

Download the card as a PDF where you can. If you only have a screenshot, use the largest one you have and check that the UAN and the QR code are sharp. A blurry UAN prints blurry.

Printing for several workers

If you help a group of workers, such as a crew or a family, upload a file for each person and set the quantity to match. Name the files with each person's name so each card reaches the right person. If you help workers who do not use smartphones, collect each person's permission and file first.

Help for those who need it

Many workers ask a relative or a local centre for help with the portal. If you are helping someone, sit with them, download their card together, and print it only with their agreement. Teach them where the file is saved, so they can print again if they need to.

What happens after you order

Keeping your papers together

Check your details every so often

If your phone number, address or work details change, update them on the official portal. Then download the new card and print from that file, so the PVC card shows what is current. A printed card is a copy of the file, so it is only as up to date as the file it came from.

Keep the number private

A UAN links to a person's records. Advise workers not to share it with strangers, and not to share an OTP with anyone who calls or messages them. Do not forward the file to people you do not know.
