Printed passport photos and official acceptance: what to check

Check the authority, application route, editing rules and print requirements.

A photo-printing service supplies photographs. It does not issue a passport, approve a visa or decide whether a photograph is accepted. The receiving authority's current instructions apply to the exact applicant and application route.

Identify the actual requirement

Start with the official form or appointment instructions. Check whether a physical photograph is required at all, the width and height, background, age of the photograph, composition, and whether digital editing is permitted. A digital-upload specification can differ from a physical-print specification.

Passport Seva identifies particular physical-photo requirements, including for children below four. Do not assume a photo needed for that case is required in every passport workflow. Consular and overseas applications can have their own instructions.

For US passport photographs, consult the Department of State's official photo page. For a US visa, consult the visa photo requirements, rather than assuming all passport and visa rules are interchangeable.

Check both the source and the finished size

A correct physical size cannot repair an angled or blurred face. Conversely, a sharp portrait can still be printed to the wrong dimensions. Follow the size comparison guide, then select the exact option on the printing page.

Understand what is being purchased

GiftKida is an independent private printing service. It does not submit your application or guarantee acceptance. If the receiving organisation requires a particular paper specification or prohibits a preparation method, confirm suitability before paying. Do not rely on generic phrases such as “passport size”, “premium paper” or “professional finish” as proof of official compliance.
